MARCH 2017

Welcome to the very first issue of the VALLEY OFFSET NEWS, an e-Newsletter our Team here at Valley Offset Printing will be publishing each month moving forward. We want to reach you, our customers (and potential customers), to showcase articles about offset printing, promotion, direct mailing, graphic design, and much more...both from us and from around the Internet.

We want you to get to know us better, and so each month we'll also be presenting an Employee Spotlight about one of our skilled Team Members here at Valley Offset Printing. And because everyone needs a good laugh, we'll be dolling out humorous tidbits as we find them, too. That's our story, and we're sticking to it...Enjoy!

March is full of notable days, including St. Patrick's Day, Daylight Savings Time begins, and the start of Spring. However, here are a few days in March that may have escaped your notice:
  • The 3rd of March is If Pets Had Thumbs Day, a day for wondering what it would be like if your cat or dog had opposable thumbs. Probably playing your video games all day on your XBox…

  • In the United States, March 10 is Middle Name Pride Day. Setting aside the question of why this day isn’t smack dab in the middle of the month, it’s a chance to appreciate your middle name…or names, if your parents couldn’t decide on just one.

  • March 11 is Johnny Appleseed Day, celebrating John Chapman, a man who became an American legend in his own time. In the early 1800’s, he was a pioneer nurseryman and missionary who planted trees as he traveled, especially apple trees.

  • Sharing the date with St. Patrick’s Day, March 17 is National Corned Beef & Cabbage Day. While based on the traditional Irish meal of Bacon & Cabbage, it was actually invented in America! In the mid-19th century, Irish immigrants substituted corned beef for the bacon or salt pork they had used back home, making it a distinctly Irish-American dish, and proudly so!

  • The last day of March is Bunsen Burner Day. It celebrates the birthday of Robert Wilhelm Eberhard von Bunsen, born on March 31, 1811. The German chemist invented the Bunsen Burner, a small adjustable gas burner that is now commonplace in science classrooms and labs.
