The employee spotlight this month... Carey Bonfiglio

What is your role at Valley Offset Printing?
Pressman on our 5-Color Komori Press.

What do you do outside of work for relaxation and fun?
Most weekends, my wife and I go to our cabin on Fall River Lake. We fish, tube, and entertain whoever comes out (you are all invited).

What is an interesting fact about yourself?
Between my grandad, my dad and myself, we have over 125 years (and counting) of experience on sheet-fed presses in Wichita, KS.

What did you want to be growing up? A fireman.

What skill or ability do you wish you had? That my body would stay as young as my mind.

Where would you like to travel to? We have traveled many places over the last few years. I am ready to enjoy what we have here.

Favorite TV shows? That is easy..."Shameless" and “Breaking Bad".

Favorite food? Any Italian dish is good, but I dislike nothing.

Why you love what you do at Valley Offset Printing? I love being a Pressman. Every job is a different challenge. I enjoy seeing a finished product and knowing how much work went into that job.

Something unique about you that few people are aware of? I had scholarship offers from K-State and KU for Band and Orchestra, but turned them down.

There are plenty of legitimate holidays, but there's a lot more that are totally unofficial and even a bit odd. Here's a some of both for the month of July:

Don't get freaked out, but July 2nd was World UFO Day. The day seeks to urge governments to admit that extraterrestrials have visited Earth. The date refers to the Roswell Incident on July 2, 1947 when an alien spacecraft is supposed to have crashed in New Mexico.

July 4th was Independence Day here in the United States, a day celebrating the freedom of our country ...even if we mostly observe it by watching parades, eating BBQ, and watching the kids blow up tiny parts of that country. The Declaration of Independence was approved and initially signed on this day in 1776, though it wasn't until the next month that all representatives had a chance to
sign it.

Here's a sweet day. Did you know that July 7th is Chocolate Day? We're not sure who came up with the idea, but does chocolate really even need an excuse?

Similar to Independence Day, July 14th is la Fête nationale in France (also called Bastille Day in English-speaking countries). It commemorates French Democracy and the end of the old monarchy.

National Moon Day is on the 20th, commemorating the first moon landing on July 20, 1969 when Neil Armstrong, followed shortly by Buzz Aldrin, were the first men to walk on the surface of the  moon. There is support for it to become a Federally-observed day in the United States.

The last Saturday in July is National Dance Day, organized in 2010 as a way to promote and encourage dancing as a fun and health activity.
